iPhone Air: Apple’s Boldest Leap Since 2017

Apple’s September event revealed its biggest star — the iPhone Air, a radical new design and the thinnest iPhone ever at just 5.6mm. Despite its slim build, it packs a flexible front camera, dual-recording capability, and cutting-edge AI features powered by Apple’s latest and most powerful custom silicon — the A19 Pro chip.

For the first time, Apple has built neural accelerators directly into each GPU core, bringing desktop-class AI performance into a smartphone. This shift means developers can now integrate AI seamlessly into apps, from gaming to photography, with performance rivaling a MacBook Pro — all happening securely on-device.

Apple’s AI push, however, comes under Wall Street’s microscope. This allows gaming, imaging, and everyday apps to harness AI without draining battery life. Developers no longer need to rely solely on the Neural Engine — AI power is baked directly into the GPU.

On the manufacturing front, the A19 Pro is being produced on TSMC’s advanced 3nm node in Taiwan, though Apple continues to push for U.S. manufacturing via TSMC’s Arizona plant. Geopolitical risks and supply chain tariffs mean Apple is exploring options, including possible future partnerships with Intel, but for now, the cutting edge remains in Taiwan.
