The US Congress is now stepping in. Two senators — Mark Warner (Democrat) and Josh Hawley (Republican) — have introduced a bipartisan bill to track AI’s impact on employment.
If passed, the bill would require companies to report every AI-related job change — layoffs, hirings, and role shifts.
So, if Microsoft replaces 1,000 customer agents with AI, they’ll have to report it to the government.
This move aims to create transparency and accountability — to separate real AI impact from corporate excuses. The collected data could also guide future policies to protect workers.
