Russian President Vladimir Putin is arriving in India on a two-day visit on December 4, and accompanying him once again will be his ultra-secure presidential vehicle — The Aurus Senat Limousine. Known worldwide for its VR10 ballistic protection, powerful engine, and unmatched VIP comfort, this car is often referred to as the “Russian Rolls-Royce.”
Aurus Senat: Meaning and Dimensions
The name ‘Aurus’ is derived from two words—
- Au: Aurum (Latin for ‘Gold’)
- Rus: Russia
The limousine is nearly 7 meters long and 2 meters wide, built specifically for luxury, comfort, and world-class protection.
The Official State Car
The Aurus Senat made its debut in 2018 during Putin’s fourth presidential swearing-in ceremony. Before this, he used the Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard Pullman.
It was developed under Russia’s Cortage Project, which aimed to create an indigenous presidential limousine.
The version used by Putin is fully armored and not available to the public. The non-armored civilian model starts at around 1.8 million rubles (approximately ₹2.5 crore).
For every foreign trip, this limousine is transported with the presidential convoy, and it has been seen at multiple global summits. Due to its extreme safety and comfort, it is often called a “Fortress on Wheels.”
Engine and Performance
Despite its massive armored body, the Aurus Senat is impressively fast. It features:
- 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine
- Hybrid electric support system
The car accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 6–9 seconds, with a top speed of about 249 km/h.
Such rapid acceleration is essential for presidential convoys and high-security situations.
The vehicle is built on a Unified Modular Platform, making it easy to customize its wheelbase and dimensions.
Security: Even a Grenade Can’t Damage It
The Aurus Senat is one of the most secure cars on the planet, equipped with:
- VR10 ballistic armor
- 6 cm thick bulletproof glass
- Protection against armor-piercing bullets
- Capability to withstand grenade attacks
- Run-flat tires that keep the car moving even after punctures
- Chemical attack protection with an onboard oxygen system
- Integrated fire-suppression system
- Mini command-center-style communication setup
This combination makes it truly a moving fortress.
Interior: Designed for VIP Luxury
Inside, the Aurus Senat feels like a premium lounge. It includes:
- High-grade leather seats
- Real wooden finish
- Large infotainment screens and advanced control systems
- Privacy divider between front and rear
- Heating, cooling, and massage seat functions
- Rear-facing seats for security officers in the latest version
Its blend of comfort and security places it among the world's finest state limousines.
Important Meeting in India
On 4 December, an annual summit meeting is expected between the Russian President and the Indian Prime Minister, where this super-armored limousine will once again draw attention.
